Killing him with my thoughts?

prouchI’m in love with Prouch, our wonderful orange exotic cat. He has had health issues over the years and looks older than his age when he walks.

I was fussing over him the other day and worried that he seemed to move more slowly in the last few months.

Well, did I get a stern talking to by my life partner, who said: “Stop it; you’re going to kill him. Stop projecting old age and illness at him!”

I deserved that reprimand. In my concern for my animal friend, I was imagining him in declining health. A lot of us women (and maybe men as well but they don’t show it as much), show caring by fussing as if worrying will protect the person we love.

In that moment, we forget that thoughts are powerful; that they have an influence beyond our complete understanding. Didn’t they prove that in scientific experiments, the observers’ expectations altered the results?

In worrying about my animal companion, I was thinking of him in ill health, completely the opposite of what I want for him (and me).

I’m grateful for my partner’s reminder; he loves Prouch too and was protecting him from my (temporary) lack of awareness.

I won’t make that mistake again and have since then been projecting healthy and happy thoughts at our fur ball.

Hope I remember the lesson whenever I get worried about anything else.

Helene,

I have heard that a negative thought is like a prayer in reverse. We must always be optimistic and positive. It just plain feels better, too.

Thanks for the reminder that it does no good to worry – it truly is magical to visualize the way you want things – nothing more powerful. Cute kitty!

Thanks. He’s loved to bits and is as quirky as they come:-)
