How to enjoy our business relationships
To be successful in business, we want people to be drawn to us.
To feel good being in business, we want to have pleasant interactions with people. In my last post, I talked about how it feels so good to be with a good friend because we feel understood, acknowledged, accepted and appreciated.
How can we help our staff, prospects, clients and vendors feel that way with us? Here are a few ideas:
- Express clearly how we understand their problems in our conversations or marketing copy
- Be genuine and manipulation-free in our dealings
- Act consistently with our values
- Treat everyone with respect including ourselves (that means having clear boundaries)
- Be generous in acknowledging everyone’s value while not losing sight of our own
- Protect the long-term relationships rather than the short-term profits (while acknowledging that you must be profitable to stay in business)
- Refuse the zero-sum mindset but work together to create a bigger pie
