Genuine Enthusiasm as Profound Marketing

I’ve just been subjected to an hour of ABBA tunes at full volume and some of their tunes are still living in my brain as ear worms. The perfect antidote I thought was to use the experience as inspiration for this post.

Actually, I’m one of those who like ABBA (you either do or you really don’t) so I didn’t mind it. But it got me thinking as I heard old performances from YouTube videos: Why are crowds going crazy over these songs? Why is my friend choosing to use them as treatment to pull out of a depressed mood?

abbaListening to the music, I got it: it’s exuberant, triumphant and bombards you with life force. (Note to ABBA dislikers: substitute a group you like in the analogy and you’ll find the same thing).

Most people aren’t “alive” enough. They may go through their day apparently well enough, they might even perform well at work and appear to enjoy themselves socially, but they lack spark.

Notice I said “genuine” enthusiasm. Just about everyone can see through the fake version and it won’t work for long.

As I keep saying, to be genuine, be yourself. Today I’ll add: to be enthusiastic, do work you care about.

If you don’t know how to combine your work with your passion or your purpose, here are a few things you can do:
